A Few Thoughts on Ring Sizing

01
Fingers change throughout the day
A ring that fits snugly in the morning may feel looser by evening. It is simply the way of things.
02
Cold contracts, warmth expands
A millimetre here or there is nothing to fret over. In the US system, half a size is barely perceptible.
03
The hands are not quite the same
The fingers of your writing hand tend to be slightly broader. If uncertain, measure both.
04
A wider ring sits differently
A substantial piece may call for half a size up. A narrow band glides more freely; a broader one will rest more closely.
05
Measure in a moment of stillness
After a long walk, a spell of warmth, or a vigorous morning, the hands may swell. The best time is midday, in a state of quiet equilibrium.
06
Sizing is not a matter of strict precision, but of comfort
Some prefer a firmer fit, others one more yielding. A ring should not be confined—it should simply belong.

How to Measure Your Ring Size?
There is no mystery to it — only a few practical methods, each effective in its own way.

1. If You Have Our Ring Sizer
Slip it on as you would a well-fitted belt. Your finger should feel at ease—neither constrained nor adrift. A ring must pass over the knuckle with a gentle resistance, never too eager to slip away. The number on the scale corresponds to your size in the American system, which we favour for its accuracy and practicality.

2. If You Have a Ring
Your rings may be measured with an app. There are various options, I have looked into several, and one that seems to work well is the Ring Sizer Tool (for iOS). It can determine size by finger as well, though, in my experience, not always with absolute accuracy.

3. If You Have Neither a Ring Nor a Sizer
Visit your local jewellery store that specialises in silver and gold. They will have the right tools to measure your size precisely. There is no need to buy anything; a kind word, a polite thank you — no more is needed. And be sure to write down your sizes.
4. Measuring At Home Without a Ring
If you have no ring at hand but need to determine your size, there is another way.
How to do it correctly:
-
Take a thin strip of paper or a non-stretchable thread.
-
Wrap it around your finger where the ring would sit.
-
A small detail: try sliding it gently over your knuckle; this will help avoid mistakes.
-
Mark the point where the strip overlaps.
-
Lay it flat and measure its length with a ruler.
-
Compare the result with a ring size chart.
A Few Common Mistakes:
-
A fit that is too tight: the ring should pass over the knuckle with ease.
-
Using elastic materials, which may stretch.
-
Measuring only at the finger's base without ensuring it passes over the knuckle.
